Colombian clinics routinely provide virtual follow-up via WhatsApp, video call, and photo monitoring. Most surgeons schedule virtual check-ins at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-procedure. For issues requiring in-person evaluation, your surgeon can provide records and imaging to a local US/Canadian provider for continuity of care.
How Virtual Follow-Up Works
Colombian medical culture is WhatsApp-first — most surgeons and clinics use WhatsApp as their primary patient communication channel. Post-discharge, you'll typically have a dedicated WhatsApp line for your surgical team where you can send photos of your healing, ask questions about symptoms, get medication guidance, and schedule formal video consultations. This is not an afterthought — it's how Colombian medicine works, and it's remarkably efficient for international patients.
Transferring Records Home
Before departure, request a complete set of your medical records including operative report (what was done, by whom, in what facility), imaging (before/after photos, X-rays if applicable), discharge summary, medication list and post-op instructions, and pathology reports if applicable. Most clinics provide these digitally. Share them with your primary care physician or relevant specialist at home so your local medical team is informed about what was done.
